Rocio Valdivielso del Real

Research Associate

Rocío Valdivielso del Real is a Research Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation (CSGR), University of Warwick. CSGR is the largest academic centre in Europe dealing with this subject area.

Alongside Professor Amrita Dhillon, she is module director for the undergraduate third-year module ‘The Making of Economic Policy’ in the department of Economics. She is also the director of the new postgraduate module ‘Energy in World Politics’ in the department of Politics.   Rocío is also a Research Associate at ABM Analytics London, a company that provides advisory services and a variety of tailor-made packages offering its energy/fuels research expertise to meet the specialised needs of clients.

Rocío has a developed record as project manager in both academia and private consultancy gained from a broad background of successful applied research in organisational analysis - as well as in the economics and politics of the liberalisation of network utilities.

Her research areas are corporate governance, international business strategy, institutional change, regulation, governance, and energy policy making in Europe. Rocío has a particular interest in the investigation of the interactions between institutional differences (National Business Systems, Varieties of Capitalism) across EU member states with an incorporation of the role of policy-makers (state activism) in order to account for the different trajectories  followed by energy companies in the context of liberalisation policies.

Rocío has previously served as a Lecturer in Industrial Sociology (European University of Madrid); Lecturer in Public Policy and Public Administration (Carlos III University of Madrid), and as a Lecturer of Comparative Political Systems at UNED (Spanish Learning Distance University). She has qualifications in Sociology, Political Science and Management Studies. She recently gained a second PhD in Management/Business at Birkbeck College, University of London. She also holds a PhD in Political Science from Complutense University.

Rocío is a member several professional associations: Energy Security in a Multipolar World Research Cluster (ESMW); Political Economy of Energy in Europe and Russia (PEEER) network; The European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) Standing Group on Regulatory Governance; and the Spanish Political Science Association.
