Peter Taylor

Research Associate

Peter Taylor has a BSc in Electrical Engineering and is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET). His early career was with The General Electric Company, firstly in engineering and later in marketing and general management.  In 1983 he joined the Ascom Group of Switzerland to become Managing Director of their UK Company.  Whilst with the Group he was also a Divisional Head in Switzerland and President and CEO of a subsidiary in the United States. 

Having for many years faced the challenge of satisfying diverse stakeholder interests consistent with the primary objective of achieving shareholder value, he joined Birkbeck in 2002 to study Corporate Governance and Ethics, gaining an MSc in 2004 and a PhD in 2010.  His research interest has been in the impact of developments in company law on the responsibilities of directors of public limited companies towards their stakeholders.  He has since acted as an adviser to a number of institutions on the interpretation of the statutory duties of directors as prescribed in the Companies Act 2006.

Peter is a pension scheme trustee and an assessor of applications for Fellowship and Chartered Engineer status at the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
