Mathias Siems

Research Associate

Mathias Siems is Professor of Commercial Law at Durham University and Research Associate at the University of Cambridge (Centre for Business Research). He has held a number of visiting appointments, for instance, at the European University Institute in Florence (Italy), Harvard Law School, St. John’s College Oxford, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the IDC in Herzliya (Israel), Waseda University (Japan), and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China).

His main research interest lies in comparative and interdisciplinary approaches to company law and corporate governance. He has also published on banking and securities law, comparative law, European private law and research methods. In 2008 his book on Convergence in Shareholder Law was published by Cambridge University Press. In 2010 he won the Philip Leverhulme Prize for a research project on comparative law.

Mathias has graduated from the University of Munich in Germany (First Judicial State Exam and PhD) and the University of Edinburgh (LLM).
